Being in the business of helping homeowners who need or want to sell has opened up a whole new world for me in respect to being attached to “Stuff”………I see it every day, people renting storage units for a couple hundred or more a month to store all that “Stuff”! Do you realize how much money that adds up to in a couple of years? What are you storing…a couple of couches, a refrigerator maybe a stove and some decorative stuff…how much would it cost to replace it verses what you pay to store it?
I’ve lost a house to foreclosure, it was horrible, degrading and just about wiped me out emotionally. That said, I have to say I never struggled with what to do with all my “Stuff” that was not going to fit into a little apartment. I kept the stuff that had meaning to me and sold the rest at a few yard sales.
My mindset was all about starting over, and building up again…with that, I knew I could get new “Stuff” when I got enough space to buy the new “Stuff”.
Now, please don’t assume I’m some nasty non caring person when it comes to people that have to make tough decisions about where they are going to live. I probably have more compassion than most, truly. I just wish there was a way to explain how liberating it is to let go of that “Stuff” just like you are doing by getting rid of the house payment that is sucking you dry….
Keep what matters to you and is useful…Don’t pay to store stuff…get your goals in order and know that you will be buying new “Stuff” soon enough!
